Items needed in this course:

Note: A “charge only” USB cable will not work. A data/sync cable is needed.

Testing USB:

  1. Plug in your USB to your computer.
  2. Double-click the small RESET button at the center of the Circuit Playground Express.

You should see all of the LEDs turn green. If they all turn red, check the USB cable, try another USB port, etc.

(If double-clicking doesn’t do it, try a single-click!)

The CPLAYBOOT drive will disappear and a new disk drive will appear called CIRCUITPY.

Setting Up:

Plug your Circuit Playground Express into your computer. A drive called CIRCUITPY should automatically show up.

On Mac, it should look like:

On Windows:

This drive is where the code is stored!

Inside the CIRCUITPY drive, there should be two files:

asdf is the program that controls the Circuit Playground. We will use this a lot.

boot_out.txt file contains information of the version of CircuitPython placed on the board.

It should look something like:

Adafruit CircuitPython 3.0.3 on 2018-10-10; Adafruit CircuitPlayground Express with samd21g18

Ok, let’s get started!
